finding the right touch

The hardest part about new authors is marketing on a tight budget. How do you find potential fans without spending thousands on a publicist.
Where ever you go on the web, you just end up lost in the crowd.
This is especially hard when you are trying to promote a book that doesn't fit the usual story line.
For instance, Wild Evolution is a story about a werewolf but it doesn't fit the ordinary storyline of violence and sex. There is violence and sex but it is a small part of the story.
The reader looking for the usual erotica story with ultra violence escapades at the full moon's beckoning is going to be disappointed.
There is romance but it is not about romance or sex.
It is more of a thriller/police procedural novel, but the minute you mention the werewolf readers pigeon hole it in the paranormal romance genre.
Wild Evolution is about a rancher who becomes a werewolf by contamination when he defends his animals in a kill or be killed battle.
Now he has to cover up a self-defense slaying or be charged with murder.
If anyone has any ideas on how to market this book let me know.
