I don't know how many I've missed, just getting up and leaving after the movie was over.

Ann Rice pretty much defined the modern vampire genre. Maybe now's the time for her to step back and let others take it in other directions (which I think has already happened). Of course she will certainly remain known as the one who paved the way.

The only way I could get hubby to watch Underworld was to tell him it was called Underwear. Haha!

PatPenumbra Publishinghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00029755714841711031noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8510182515140078180.post-52672090210903798032012-02-10T05:52:03.084-06:002012-02-10T05:52:03.084-06:00I have two pet peeves, one general and one more sp...I have two pet peeves, one general and one more specific. Why are so many movies over two hours? For instance I saw "MI:4 Ghost Protocol" last month, very good movie that I enjoyed but as usual they tack on another 15 minutes or so at the end to have that "feel good" moment that both ties things up and sets things up for the next one. I just didn't think the movie needed it, with an action flick generally unless the main character dies (or it didn't make any money) you can be almost certain there will be another.

For more specific I read a book about 5 months ago called "Merrick" by Anne Rice. I used to love Anne Rice but by "Armand" I had to force myself on. For really annoyed me about this book was the safe choices she made. Oh I guess I should say SPOILER ALERT, for those who are way behind like me :) So in it Louis commits suicide and rather than have the guts to actually kill a main character she just brings him back (more powerful than ever of course). If that wasn't enough through most of the book we are introduced to this new character Merrick. I quite like her, she was a paranormal investigator of sorts and a psychic/witch who has dealing with vampires. Then like Rice does with any interesting character in her series, she turns her into a vampire. I just found her very safe/predicitable choices very frustrating. I still think she can get into the vampire mindset and show how they hunt extremely well, she just didn't have the guts to do anything different. Of course her newer books maybe a lot better.

Oh and my wife will go to lots of movies with me as long as I pay (and get popcorn). She went to Underworld last week :)

CharlesCharles O'Keefehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08089790548370118495noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8510182515140078180.post-26593705969349593332012-02-09T10:38:50.156-06:002012-02-09T10:38:50.156-06:00I guess my pet peeve about science fiction movies ...I guess my pet peeve about science fiction movies is they are rare, and difficult to do well. I loved Battlefield Earth, Battle Los Angeles, Independence Day, War of the Worlds (2005 remake), District 9, and Star Trek 2009.

The toughest part about being a science fiction fan is convincing a wife or girlfriend to attend a Sci/Fi flick, too. My wife won't watch any movie where someone gets eaten by an alien.Walter Knighthttp://www.waltknight.yolasite.comnoreply@blogger.com
